If you're in Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam is only a 30-minute drive away. And it's definitely worth a visit, especially by raft!
The Hoover Dam is an engineering marvel constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression. It's built on the Colorado River around the Black Canyon on the border of Nevada and Arizona and has has a rich historical significance. The dam provides water and electricity and controls flooding along the desert landscape. It has transformed Nevada, creating unique physical features and allowing flora and fauna to thrive.
Hoover Dam is also a popular tourist destination, with over 7 million visitors yearly. Visitors come to the area for hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, and sightseeing. There are also interpretive trails that offer stunning views of the dam and the surrounding area. For those who want to get closer to the water, there are several beaches where you can relax and enjoy the sun and sand. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try your hand at rafting.
Rafting on Lake Mead
Lake Mead Mohave Adventures (LMMA) has offered Hoover Dam Rafting Adventures for 41 seasons. This season, visitors can take the Hoover Dam Raft Tour and Hoover Dam Postcard Tour every Wednesday through Sunday.
There are memorable excursions along the Black Canyon National Water Trail on the majestic Colorado River, with up-close photo opportunities at the base of the Dam. The tour includes expert guides to share information.
Stops along the shore below Hoover Dam allow you to enjoy clear and calm views of the Colorado River. This trip begins at the Lake Mead RV Village at 9:30 a.m. and ends with a three-hour rafting adventure.
During the Rafting tour, guests are provided with lunch that includes turkey wrap, chips, fruit, a cookie, and water, a special gluten-free or vegetarian meal catered by request.

$115 for children ages 5 to 15
$125 for guests 16 years or older

The tour fee doesn’t include the $15 National Park entrance fee. But if you need a budget tour or have limited time, you can try the Hoover Dam Postcard Raft Tour. This tour takes only one and a half hours along the Colorado River and views of the Mike O’Callaghan Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. The tour costs $49 for children ages 5 to 15 and $69 for guests 16 or older.
