6 Weird Things to Expect in Vegas During Christmas

If you live in Las Vegas long enough, what is strange to most people will seem normal to you. Video poker at the grocery store will not raise your eyebrows. Summer days that hit 117 Fahrenheit will be okay. Even when you take your parents to the Strip when they visit, and they are crowded by people handing out escort service trading cards, you won’t be shocked.

But Vegas is not all about absurdity. We also have great normal Christmas traditions like the Vegas Christmas displays that you cannot see anywhere in the world.

But today, I’m going to share with you 6 weird traditions that you should expect during Christmas in Las Vegas.

#1 Some Parts of Vegas Freezing

Stop being so shocked. Las Vegas is in a desert, yes! But we have ice too. Annual pop-up ice rinks will always be available for skating during Christmas. You can find them at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and Downtown Summerlin.

As for the temperature, it gets pretty cold. Nights frequently hit 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

#2 Underwater Santa

You can take your kids to see Santa underwater. You can find him at the Mermaid Aquarium at Silverton.

#3 Santa Claus on the Runway

Santa Claus on the Runaway is one of the most popular shows on Christmas in Vegas. It takes place at Fashion Show Mall near Apple Store. There are years he sings; in others he uses prerecorded music like the drunken uncle in New Year’s Eve. But the show is entertaining, with huge crowds and stylish dancers. It will give you a culturally diverse experience like no other.

#4 Open Eerie Vegas Museums

Away from the glitz and glamor that characterize extravagant meals, showgirls, and casinos in Vegas, there are unique museums that border on strange. And they are open for you and your kids on Christmas Day. For example, there is the Atomic Museum that gives the story of America’s history of testing nuclear weapons. There is also the Mob Museum that exhibits the historic journey of Las Vegas when it was ruled by the Mob. Neon Museum consists of flashy neon signs.

There are at least nine weird museums that you and your kids can visit in Vegas during Christmas.

#5 Shopping on Christmas Day

Unlike other cities, shops in Vegas are usually open on Christmas Day. So, you don’t have to wait until Dec 26 to return that ugly Christmas sweater or use your holiday cash and gift cards. I’m not going to lie to you. Some of these stores are weird, like the Zombie Apocalypse Store, Toy Shack, and Pits ‘n’ Wieners. But there are also non-weird ones like Miracle Mile and Forum Shops. What you should know is that as long as it is inside or attached to a casino, it is open.

Santa Jaws is an event that takes place in the Shipwreck at Shark Reef Aquarium. You can find Sharp Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay. It’s usually called One Festive Shark. They don’t put a Santa suit on an actual shark, something that could be epic, but someone is diving with the sharks with a Santa suit on.
