Life In Vegas: Why I Can’t Live Anywhere Else

Before I began writing this piece, I asked one of my closest friends which city he would live in if he were not living in Vegas. And he said, “Probably Mars, after Elon Musk colonizes it.”

Then he went ahead to ask me why I would even think about living anywhere else when I live in the best city in the world.

You see, Las Vegas is known as the Entertainment Capital of the World. It has a reputation for being an adults-only playground because of the iconic stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard, which is famous for nonstop gambling and partying.

But beyond the Strip lies a pleasant community of happy suburban residents, beautiful parks unperturbed by neon lights, and world-class restaurants. Vegas has many museums and cultural institutions that are alternatives to the Strip. For example, there is Lake Mead and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.  These and many others offer great opportunities for experiencing the outdoors.

Therefore, we are not just a city of gambling and partying, where the name Sin City comes from. We are more than that. We have family-friendly communities that enjoy quietness outside the Strip in the surrounding Las Vegas Valley.

Plus, there is always something happening in Las Vegas. There is the annual Las Vegas Book Festival, the Las Vegas Food and Wine Festival, and a host of many activities on the Strip.

We are not just a city where you will come to spot wildlife or have your dream wedding, then go away. There is affordable housing, low living costs, great all-year weather, no state income tax, and many other things that make the city attractive to live in.

So why can’t I live anywhere else?

The Population

According to the Las Vegas Metro Area Population 1950-2022, the current population of Vegas is 2,839,000. It is a 2.42% increase from that of 2021. This number is just right.

Low Crime Rate

The city’s crime rate is 17% higher than the national average, but it is considered safer than over 18% of American cities.

The Lifestyle

Las Vegas has everything that I want. If I want hip neighborhoods near the nightlife of the city, I will find them. If I want family-friendly master-planned communities, I will find them.

There are different residential areas for different lifestyles. For example, there is 18b downtown, which has vintage clothing boutiques, salons, restaurants, and many other services, and offers nice neighborhoods to live in. There is Seven Hills, which is an upscale planned community full of condos and homes. There is Mount Charleston for quiet and secluded communities, among many other neighborhoods.

Las Vegas has affordable housing, no state income tax, sunny weather all year-round, professional sports, and much outdoor fun. Its diversity also continues to grow annually. For example, it is home to a growing Hispanic community, which consists of over 33.2% of the residents.

As I said before, I can’t live anywhere else.
