Can the Las Vegas Aces Win in 2023?

The Las Vegas Aces sit atop the mountain after winning the WNBA title, but can they repeat the greatness?

While a lot can change during an offseason, only a few teams seem even close to their level: the Suns, who they defeated in the WNBA Finals, the Mystics, and the Sky.

Can the Las Vegas Aces win in 2023?

The Connecticut Suns could be a legitimate threat

The Connecticut Suns finished the regular season with the same record as the Aces. The only noticeable difference was in their final ten-game stretch of the schedule, where the Suns posted a 6-4 record, while the Aces went 8-2.

Another example of this was Las Vegas going 8-2 in the playoffs while The Suns went  6-6.

Las Vegas could also run into trouble with other top WNBA Teams

Then there’s the Chicago Sky, who the Aces didn’t meet in the 2022 playoffs but did battle during the regular season. The Aces would go on to win two out of these three matchups in a very competitive series. This is why with a few more adjustments, the Sky could be a big problem.

Another team that managed to defeat the Aces during the regular season was the Seattle Storm, who defeated them in a playoff game. They seem like another team that is a roster change away from going further.

The odds are stacked against the Las Vegas Aces in 2022

It all comes down to a few questions and what they change is the first one. Although the team shouldn't mess up their great chemistry, they might benefit from some depth on the bench. The next question is, what do the other teams do differently? Is there a weakness they can take advantage of?

Now that coach Hammon has completed her first full year,  the league has a much better idea of her tendencies. They also have a good idea of her strategies and what roles she puts her players in. If they can find ways to counteract her strategy and force her to adjust, it might be enough to prevent back-to-back championships.

The Aces must now do the impossible. They are sitting at the top of the perch and must take on all challengers. They are the top dogs and everything they do is going to be scrutinized. Every team will be looking for an advantage.  The whole league will want to take them down. Those are some pretty stacked odds against the Aces.
