He’s Early Years

He was born in 1942 in Virginia. When he was six, he began learning to play various musical instruments, such as the piano and guitar. He also started singing at a young age alongside his elder brother Jerry. At the time, this was probably for fun, and he had no idea how big he would become in years to come. He featured in several performances with his brother, including a roadshow and for the then president.

In the late 1950s, a booking agent saw their potential and landed them an audition. It was successful and was a five-year long-term engagement, with multiple shows every day. His career was off to a great start, and he sang and acted in various productions.

First Album

Since his endeavors as an entertainer were bearing fruit, he eventually signed up with a record label, Capital Records. It was a big step that saw him release his first album. Around this time, he recorded what became one of his best releases of all time, Danke Schoen. The song was so popular and ranked in the top twenty of the Hot 100.

The Shows

He continued to explore the entertainment industry and worked with lead entertainers such as Jack Benny as his opening act. He later got a similar opening at the Flamingo, but he requested for the headline act instead. Amazingly, he got the opportunity, another golden chance for his talent to shine. Over time, he performed on multiple stages and recorded more songs, and by 1994, he had hit 25,000 solo shows in Las Vegas.

His Other Passion

Many people also know him for his love for horses. He’s an Arabian horse breeder, a role he took seriously, and even saw him winning an award in 2007. His accolades extend to various charitable works, such as a big production with other renowned stars to raise money for diabetes research.

He is also a family man and has been married twice. He is only human and has had his fair share of challenges, including financial and legal issues. However, his achievements in the entertainment industry overshadow all this, and he will always be one of the Las Vegas legends.
