The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art Dives Into African American History

The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s new exhibit is called Caldonia, which features concert and film posters from the Ralph DeLuca Collection.

Caldonia: Concert & Film Posters from the Ralph DeLuca Collection

The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s new exhibit is now open. It’s called Caldonia: Concert and Film Posters from the Ralph DeLuca Collection. This exhibit features vintage concert and movie posters of African American performers and shows how their representation has changed throughout history. 

 

About the Exhibit

The Caldonia collection comprises rare and historic early to mid-twentieth century concert posters. These posters provide a glimpse into the past, representing well-known artists like Otis Redding, Ruth Brown, Thelonius Monk, James Brown, and Aretha Franklin. You can also see the 1945 poster for “Caldonia,” the song that inspired the exhibit.  

Or, you can check out other defining pieces on display, like iconic movie posters. This exhibit features advertisements for films like the 1943 Cabin in the Sky with Ethel Waters and Lena Horne, and the 1929 St. Louis Blues starring Bessie Smith.

Ralph DeLuca is a leading buyer of vintage movie and concert photo memorabilia. He has lent these pieces to the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art for the public to enjoy and learn about this period in American music and film history. 

 

Hours & Admission

Caldonia: Concert and Film Posters from the Ralph DeLuca Collection is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. The last admission is at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $18 per person and can be purchased online. Upon entry to the gallery, ask about discounts for Nevada residents, students, military, and seniors.

This collection recently debuted. It’s unclear how long this exhibit will be on display, but past exhibits have usually stayed for a few months. 

 

Location

The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art is located on the main floor of the hotel and casino. From the lobby, walk straight back, then take a left and keep going; it will then be on your right side.  For a map of the property and further directions, visit here.
