What do you think was the worst Las Vegas sports moment of 2020?
#5 Kyle Busch being eliminated in the round of 12
What could be worse than not getting to defend your title from the previous year? That s what happened to
Kyle Busch at the end of the second round of the playoffs, and it was a turning point in Busch s career. Between only winning one race this season and missing the final four, it s obvious that he's starting to fall off.
It's going to leave a huge hole in NASCAR when Kyle Busch retires.
#4 The Raiders getting denied a playoff spot
Nothing tastes worse than getting denied a playoff spot for the 18th year in a row. What hurts the worst about all this is how close this team was to making the playoffs. Keep in mind that the Raiders were 6-4 before getting handed a loss from the Atlanta Falcons. The loss sent them reeling and would be the beginning of the end for their playoff hopes.
#3 Kurt Busch missing out on the final four and another championship
Can you believe it has been 18 years since Kurt Busch has won a championship in the Cup Series? Keep in mind that was back with Dale Earnhardt Jr was still in the #8 car, Martin Truex Jr was just a guy in the Busch Series, and Jeff Gordon was the best thing the sport had going for it.
Unfortunately for Kurt Busch, it looks like the glory days aren't returning after he was eliminated in the round of 8 of the playoffs last season. It was just sad to see from someone that doesn't have a lot of years left to drive. In fact, he is rumored to be retiring at the end of next season, which means he only has one more chance at a title.
#2 Marcus Mariota not getting the starting job over Derek Carr
Please understand that this is coming from a Derek Carr fan. With that being said, and Marcus Mariota not getting the starting job after their 30-27 loss to the Chargers, it was a sad moment for the Raiders organization. Not only did it leave them with no legitimate chance of making the playoffs, but it also disrespected one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
Marcus Mariota was the way forward to a playoff spot, but Jon Gruden continues to rely on his golden boy. Now, this doesn't mean Carr won t lead them to a playoff spot eventually, but this wasn t his year. Gruden should have realized that and benched him in favor of Mariota.
#1 The Las Vegas Aces getting swept in the Finals
The Las Vegas Aces had a chance to finally bring a championship home, but things didn t turn out how everyone had hoped. In fact, the Aces ended up getting swept in three games by the Seattle Storm in the WNBA Finals. Keep in mind that this was a team that many predicted would struggle without Kelsey Plum and Liz Cambage, who were both ruled out during the preseason.
Watching the Aces lose to the Storm in the Finals was heartbreaking. It chipped away at all the momentum those women had built up throughout the season. This team defied the odds repeatedly, but somehow got denied when it matters the most. That must be the most heartbreaking loss possible when it comes to sports.
