5 Biggest Las Vegas Sports Moments of 2020

2020 was a memorable year for Las Vegas sports, but what were the top five best sports moments of the year?

#5 Kurt Busch winning at Las Vegas

Nothing feels better than getting back to victory lane, and that s exactly what Kurt Busch did at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this year. Not only was this victory the 32nd of his career, but it also was enough to guarantee him a spot in the round of 8 in the playoffs. It was even his first win at his home track, which made the victory even more special.

Victories don t come around all the time, especially for NASCAR veterans, and it s important to savor every single one. Sure, Kurt Busch failed to make it into the final four, but at least he continues to be a threat. He is going out with a blaze of glory.

#4 Las Vegas Aces make the playoffs

It s no secret that the Las Vegas Aces had a bad taste in their mouth after being eliminated from the 2019 playoffs in the very first round, but what would it take to rectify that?  The Aces answered that question this year by making the playoffs again and imposing their will on anyone that stood in their way- until they ran into the Seattle Storm.

Unfortunately for the Aces, they would be eliminated by the Seattle Storm in the finals of the WNBA playoffs, but getting this far was a statement. This is proof that the Las Vegas Aces are for real!

#3 The Las Vegas Golden Knights entire season

What can you say about a team that had the definition of a good season? While some readers might want us to be more specific, especially with so many wonderful things happening for this team in 2020, that s what makes it so difficult to decide. Think about it! This team went 39-24, had two supermen for goalies, and one of the most aggressive offenses in the entire league.

In all honesty, this was a team that could have gone all the way if they had a few other factors going their way. In fact, between how unbeatable the tandem of Robin Lehner and Marc-Andre Fleury was throughout the regular season, it s impossible to deny that they were a legitimate contender. Yeah, the Dallas Stars eventually knocked them out of contention, but what a freaking season these guys had.

In the end, it s all about momentum, and the Golden Knights have that going into the 2021 season. They also return with one of the best goalie tandems in the entire league, a top scorer in Max Pacioretty, and an aggressive offense that is dying to rectify getting knocked out in the semifinals. It should come as no surprise that this will be the definition of a must-watch season.

#2 Kyle Busch keeping his winning streak alive another season

Kyle Busch was heading into the 2020 season hoping to defend his Cup Series title, but life had other plans for the two-time champion. Unfortunately for Busch, these plans included going winless in the regular season, only making the playoffs by points, and getting knocked out in the second round after a pit strategy went disastrously wrong.

Kyle Busch had a season that could only be described as a living hell. However, there was one singular silver lining to Busch s 2020 season. That came during the fall Texas race, where Busch claimed a dominant victory after rain postponed the race for three days.

The victory kept Kyle Busch s record of a win a season alive and did a lot to boost his morale heading into 2021.

#1 The Raiders defeating the Cheifs!

What could be better than defeating the defending Super Bowl champions and handing them their first loss of the season? Seriously though, the Raiders defeating the Chiefs 40-32 was one of the most promising signs of a playoff run all season and was also a morale booster. It was as if no one could stop the Las Vegas Raiders now that they had knocked off the Super Bowl champions.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, they would lose five of their next nine games, which is likely to cost them a playoff spot. While the Raiders have shown some signs of promise this season, their crumbling defense held them back. Hopefully, that changes, and the defense can finally get other teams off the field, but it s going to take a lot of moves in the offseason to make that happen. Until then, just enjoy the fact that they beat the Super Bowl champions!
