The Las Vegas Golden Knights have had quite the season. Here's is the good, the bad, and the ugly of it all.
1. Good: Golden Knights holding tough despite missing key players.
It's no secret that the
Las Vegas Golden Knights have had their share of bad luck this season. It almost seemed like it was piling on at one point. In fact, between Marc Andre Fleury going on the Covid-19 reserve list, Robin Lehner dealing with ongoing concussion issues, and Alex Pietrangelo out with pectoral problems, it felt like the team was doomed to implode. Of course, they did to a degree, dropping three of their last ten games, but they minimized the damage in a way that few other teams would have been able to.
Furthermore, the Golden Knights are still division leaders and still have one of the most unstoppable goalie combinations in the NHL. It's going to be very hard to take this team down in the playoffs.
2. The Bad. The Alex Pietrangelo injury
Although the Golden Knights have been doing a good job of taking Alex Pietrangelo's loss on the chin, they have still struggled in his absence. Keep in mind that Pietrangelo was responsible for 10 points and a +/- of eight minutes. If nothing else, he is a crucial part of both sides of the puck, and his absence is hurting the Knights in some of these games.
3. The ugly: Golden Knights considering proof of vaccination to attend games
VGK President Jerry Bubolz is considering a controversial move that will force fans to show proof of vaccination in order to attend games in the future. Now, this would be an interesting way to encourage people to get vaccinated, but it also forces fans to make a very tough decision. A tough decision that has almost become hyper-political.
In the end, it's impossible to know whether the Las Vegas Golden Knights will go down this road or not, but it's going to come with a lot of controversies either way.
