I LOVED Janet Jackson's Latest Residency at Resorts World

Janet Jackson's latest Las Vegas residency at Resorts World Theatre is a ticket worth splashing the cash on. The five-time GRAMMY Award-winning icon's show is both a testament to her enduring talent and a celebration of an illustrious career that shows no signs of slowing down.

The residency, simply titled "Janet Jackson: Las Vegas," was electrifying. She performed non-stop for over two hours, singing to a crowd of 5,000 people. Her show features a 42-song setlist that spans and boasts her extensive catalog.

We heard eight of her chart-topping hits, such as “All For You,” “Miss You Much,” and “That’s the Way Love Goes,” as well as fan-favorite deep cuts “Trust a Try,” “SloLove,” and “You.”

Jackson also sang “Velvet Rope” for the first time since 1999 and platinum selling-single doo-wop-inspired single “I Want You” for the first time since the song’s promotional performances in 2004.

The production values are top-notch, with elaborate sets, a live band, dazzling costumes, and dynamic choreography alongside a troupe of male dancers. Jackson's energy is palpable as she moves across the stage, captivating the audience with every step.

The show's pacing is also worth making note of, blending high-energy dance numbers, such as “If” and “Rhythm Nation,” with soulful ballads “Come Back To Me” and “Let’s Wait Awhile” in between thought-provoking interludes, ensuring that there's never a dull moment to switch off from.

As the show reaches its emotional peak, Jackson returns to the stage for a moving encore that leaves the audience in awe. She begins with the hopeful ballad "Better Days," delivering each lyric with heartfelt sincerity as her voice resonates with hope and resilience.

The intimate moment slowly builds as the energy shifts and seamlessly transitions into the uplifting "Together Again."  I watched the crowd sing every word as she walked joyfully across the stage and interacted with fans.

As the song details losing a loved one, Jackson used the moment to pay tribute to her father, Joe Jackson, and older brothers, Michael and Tito, by displaying photos of them on the screens behind her. While confetti ran down and the final notes faded, the entire theater was on its feet, clapping and singing along, wishing the show wasn’t about to end.

The “Janet Jackson: Las Vegas” show is her second residency in Sin City after 2019’s “Metamorphosis” at Park MGM and continues to reaffirm her status as a true entertainment legend. Having seen both shows, her latest show at Resorts World Theatre knocks the other out of the park and rivals her shows during her peak in the 1990s. It's a must-see experience that all fans, whether die-hard, casual, or even curious, should witness.

And since she’ll turn 60 next year and has had a career for over five decades, Jackson looks like she's having the time of her life. After all, she was the blueprint for a whole generation of stars. From Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, and Beyonce to Jason Derulo, Chris Brown, and Tinashe — Jackson continues to be a reference.

Jackson’s residency kicked off on December 30 and continued until January 4 before returning for another run of shows in February. Due to demand, the powerhouse entertainer has extended her residency at the Resorts World Theatre with six more shows in May. As of this writing, the final show is set to take place on May 31.

Despite initially announcing that she would release an album titled Black Diamond in 2020, Jackson has yet to release any new material since 2018. However, if there are still plans to drop fresh material, now would be the perfect time to launch a new era.
