Last Week in Las Vegas Sports (Sept 9-15)

A former player calls out the Las Vegas Golden Knights, the Aces go on a three-game winning streak, and the Raiders win big! Let's talk last week in Las Vegas sports (Sept 9-15).

#5 Journalist caught on hot mic trashing Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders took a lot of heat after their 22-10 loss to the Chargers. Not only did the team suffer multiple injuries on defense, the offense was noticeably stagnant.

One reporter is so convinced that the Raiders are doomed that he was caught trash-talking them on a hot microphone. The comment was regarding Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew, who the reporter does not believe in. The hot mic moment was later screen-recorded and leaked by a user named  Joe Morley.

#4 Kyle Busch comments on Michael Jordan

Kyle Busch is a 20-year NASCAR Cup Series veteran and has seen it all. Whether it's the Car of Tomorrow or the new playoff format, the Las Vegas native was here for it. Recently, he discussed what Michael Jordan means to the sport.

“Those guys have such a resource at their fingertips, of being able to talk to that guy, ask him questions, ‘How did you handle x-moment, or what did you do, what was your thought process?’ All of those things, to get inside the mind of the greatest of all time, you know, and to have that resource is just phenomenal,” Busch said.

“That’s one thing that I feel like can make anyone great, and I feel like he raises the bar for anyone that works there, at 23XI because they know who that guy is, and they know what his accomplishments have been.

#3  Jonathon Marchessault accuses Golden Knights of disloyalty

Jonathan Marchessault set the internet ablaze last week after stating during an interview that the Las Vegas Golden Knights aren't loyal to their players.  The comment comes only a month after Marchessault left the Golden Knights for the Nashville Predators.

“There’s definitely no loyalty (in Vegas), but at the same time, you’re there to win," Marchessault said. "I don’t mind that mindset, personally... Obviously, I’m disappointed that I left. I thought I had done well enough in the past seven years for them that I could deserve what I deserved. Only the future will tell us if they were right or wrong."

Las Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon clapped back immediately, however.

"Well, there's a lot that goes into it,"  McCrimmon said in a recent interview. "We did offer him 4 years, which then ended up turning into a 5-year deal from Nashville, which we weren't comfortable going to."

#2 Las Vegas Aces go on three-game winning streak

The Las Vegas Aces are looking better than ever after defeating the Connecticut Suns in an 84-71 contest on Sunday. This victory marks a three-game winning streak for the Aces, with only two games to go in the regular season.

Unfortunately, there aren't enough games to improve their seeding for the playoffs, but they're still a force to be reckoned with.

A'ja Wilson dominated the game with 29 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Another X factor in this game was Jackie Young, who went off for 13 points, seven assists, and eight rebounds against the Suns.  What's most mind-blowing is that while the Suns managed to make it a competitive game in the first half, there was none of that in the third quarter.

Thats right! The Aces played lockdown defense to outscore their opponents 23-11 in the third. The trend continued in the fourth.

The Aces now move on to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday before they take on the wings in their last game of the season.

#1 Las Vegas Raiders rally for first win of the season

The Las Vegas Raiders are in the win column after defeating the Baltimore Ravens 26-23. Vegas' defense set the tone by not allowing a trip into the endzone until the second half. Robert Spillane also intercepted Lamar Jackson and Maxx Crosby got two sacks on the franchise QB. It's an interesting victory because the Ravens lost to the Chiefs 27-20 ten days ago.

Gardner Minshew was much more consistent this week.  Of course, it took him until the third quarter to score against the Ravens' defense, but they sure kept at it. The running game played out like last week, with Zamir White taking nine carries for 24 yards in Sunday's win. Alexander Mattison did a somewhat impressive job with a four-yard rush for a touchdown. This continues his streak and makes him the Raiders' only viable running weapon.
