Last week in Las Vegas Sports (Oct 23 - 29)

Rumors swirl around Tom Brady and the Raiders, a player lets loose on Josh McDaniels, and the Golden Knights take their first loss of the season. Let's talk last week in Las Vegas sports (Oct 23 - 29).

#5 Las Vegas Golden Knights comment on first loss of the season

The Las Vegas Golden Knights are no longer undefeated after taking a shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime. Las Vegas started the first period strong on offense, scoring two goals, but allowed the Blackhawks to do the same. That left the two sides tied up until the third period when things got interesting.

This is where the Golden Knights shot in one more goal to lengthen their undefeated streak. Unfortunately, the Blackhawks would match it a few minutes later during a power play and send them into overtime. Chicago used this opportunity to win the game with only minutes to go after Phillip Kurashev knocked in the deciding goal.

“Obviously, they were playing hard and stepping up, but I thought we weren’t really making the plays we normally make," Vegas center Brett Howden said after the loss. "I thought it was good for us to get a goal back, and at least get a point out of it. But it’s not up to our standard.”

#4 Rumor claims the Raiders thought Tom Brady would be their new quarterback

There have been a lot of wild rumors this season, but none of them seem to come close to Tom Brady almost becoming a Las Vegas Raider. Apparently, Las Vegas thought this was a done deal during the 2022 offseason.

According to Hondo Carpenter: "things transpired in Tom Brady’s life that made him coming and quarterbacking the Raiders to not be an option. That was not the Raider's fault. I've seen some people say Brady didn't want to play for the Raiders. Not accurate... They had planned on Tom Brady. Go out and get a rookie. Develop him behind Brady and keep moving. So their third choice was Jimmy Garoppolo.”

So Jimmy Garoppolo wasn’t even the Raider's second pick for quarterback. Carpenter refused to divulge who the Raiders wanted as backup under Tom Brady, but it is surprising that it wasn’t Garoppolo.

#3 Chelsea Grey slams Clay Travis over high school boys challenge

Controversial sports announcer Clay Travis is making headlines after an insulting challenge to the Las Vegas Aces. The challenge would see the championship Aces taking on a boy's high school basketball team for $1 million.

Things started with Travis claiming that a boy's basketball team could beat the best teams the WNBA had to offer. This didn’t sit well with the newly minted back-to-back WNBA Champions, who responded exactly how you would expect. In fact, Chelsea Grey outright called Travis a dumbass.

After Grey smacked him down, Travis shot back with this: “I’ll put a million dollars on the line, your WNBA champion team against a 2024 high school boy’s state champion team of my choice... You guys win, you get a million bucks of my money, my team wins, you all pay me a million, and I give it all to the boy’s high school team."

#2 Anonymous Raiders player comments Josh McDaniels

[caption id="attachment_40031" align="alignnone" width="1024"]Las Vegas Raiders Source. YouTube[/caption]

Firing Josh McDaniels is a popular idea among Las Vegas Raiders fans, and for good reason. The head coach only has a record of 20-32, including a 9-15 record as the Raiders coach. McDaniels is also known for lousy decision-making during games and getting his playbook decoded pretty easily.

This should be enough for the Raiders to oust Josh McDaniels, but the locker room apparently doesn’t agree. Ed Carpenter of Sports Illustrated received the following text from an anonymous Raiders player.

"We share that frustration, but I can't think of one of us who really wants to see the coach fired in the middle of the season. Just give up on the year? Who does that? Who quits? That doesn't make any sense to me. Frustrated? You better believe it. Wonder about some stuff? Of course. Want a guy fired? Lost our locker room? Give me a f—ing break."

#1 Report confirms Hunter Renfrow wants to leave the Raiders

[caption id="attachment_40519" align="alignnone" width="1024"]Las Vegas Raiders, Hunter Renfrow Source. YouTube[/caption]

Hunter Renfrow has long been a subject of trade rumors, and it appears to finally be coming true. According to Bleacher Repor, Renfrow and the Raiders are on the same page on finding a trade destination before the deadline. The news comes amid reports of what some call a fractured relationship between Renforw and Josh McDaniels.

A lot of the problem seems to be the lack of opportunities that Renfrow has gotten on offense. The former first-round pick has only been targeted 12 times for eight catches and 73 yards. He continues to be one of the least-used receivers on the stat sheet, which has to be frustrating for someone that talented.
