1. Look at the skies at a hot air balloon festival

Hop in the car and take a trip 90 minutes north for the Casablanca Hot Air Balloon Festival in Mesquite. Bright, colorful balloons will soar into the air over the Casablanca resort. The aircraft operators will be available for meet-and-greets after the flights. You’ll also find food, gorgeous views, and live entertainment after sundown.

Admission is free.

When: Friday – Saturday, starting at 7 am

2. Find the killer at an opera murder mystery

One part opera, one part crime thriller. Are you ready to see “A Capacity for Evil”? The musical show will be presented by Opera Las Vegas at The Space. Lead star John Riesen helped develop the original production.

Tickets start at $35.

When: Friday – Saturday at 7:30 pm, Sunday at 6 pm.

3. Drink beer at a festival

It’s always a good time to drink beer. Drink as much as you want at Winterfest, a short beer festival hosted by Big Dog’s Brewing Company. Don’t worry about finding a sexy outfit for this casual fest. Throw on something comfortable and go have a good time sampling more than 45 craft pours.

$29 gets you ten drink tickets.

4. Indulge in a special wine-pairing

If a romping beer fest doesn’t sound like an appealing Saturday, how about a five-course specialty meal with wine pairings curated by Washington’s Coyote Canyon Winery? The menu starts with an amuse-bouche with pickled baby beets, herbed goat cheese and candied kumquat and ends with lemon olive oil cake and a dollop of whipped crème fraîche.

Dinner is $125 per person.

5. Continue Lunar New Year celebrations

Lunar New Year celebrations continue across the city this weekend. The Las Vegas Spring Festival Parade marches into Fremont East on Saturday morning. If you’re on the west side of town, try the Desert Breeze Spring Festival happening at the same time at Desert Breeze Park.

You can watch lion dances Saturday at 5 pm inside MGM’s lobby and Sunday at 1 pm inside the Cosmopolitan by the east side doors.
