There is a hidden gem located just a short 45-minute drive from the infamous Las Vegas Strip and 2 miles past the Town of Nelson, NV, This is a place that has history dating back to the 1800s and oh, did I mention that it’s also one of the state's most notorious ghost towns? I am speaking of Eldorado Mine Tours.
I know that the name may initially throw you off as I mentioned that it was a ghost town, however, Eldorado Mine Tours is an all-encompassing excursion town within a town! The name is based on the location, which was at one time the most famous operational gold mines in Southern Nevada. Currently, Eldorado Mine Tours offers tours of the mine to the public. This educational guided tour allows you to actually experience inside of the mine! You’ll get to see how the miners extracted gold, learn about how they worked, and a plethora of historical and educational facts! This is a walking tour through the mine which lasts a little over an hour and it was great! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
After the mine tour, I took a self-guided tour around the ghost town. What a phenomenal place! Every section is a photo-op, and actually there were some people there working with professional photographers and taking advantage of the many amazing backdrops! There is no cost to tour the ghost town and explore the artifacts and antiques, however, for those interested in photoshoots for weddings, graduations, movies, or other special occasions, arrangements must be made with the management to discuss permission requirements.
Another surprising offering at Eldorado Mine Tours is canoe rentals along with one or two-man sit-on-top kayaks! The location of the mine is conveniently located only 5-miles away from the Colorado River, so for those looking for a water adventure they have you covered as well!
There is also a quaint gift shop on-site, and as per current regulations, masks are required (but are not supplied). Eldorado Canyon Mine Tours is a family-friendly destination and excursion that offers something that will wow everyone! So, who’s ready to go?
